Meet the Teacher
Rachel is a qualified primary school teacher with almost ten years’ experience working with the full Primary age range including Early Years. Her qualifications include a BA in English Literature and Education, including early childhood development, and a Masters degree in Education as well as a MA-Level PGCE with Qualified Teacher Status. From there, Rachel taught in various schools around the North East of England before moving to Berkshire and working in schools as a classroom teacher, interventions teacher, behaviour specialist, music co-ordinator, science co-ordinator, languages co-ordinator, child safeguarding officer, and special needs co-ordinator just to name a few roles… often all at the same time (she’s never bored)! Rachel’s particular professional interest is special needs education which is what inspired her to gain qualifications in reading and writing Braille to support visually impaired children and using Makaton sign language to support children with communicative difficulties. She has been a passionate enthusiast of both ever since, and has enjoyed sharing this passion with children, parents, other teachers and anyone else who stands still for long enough.
In her spare time (what’s that again?) Rachel enjoys singing, either for weddings, with musical theatre groups, as a Disney princess for children’s parties, or as a member of the fantastic professional close-harmony trio “The Dolly Mixtures”. She also runs her own children’s musical theatre club and does vocal coaching for children as well as writing music and vocal arrangements.
After having her own little Disney princess, Isabelle, in December 2017, it was only natural that Rachel would combine her love of teaching with her love of singing and set up her own sign language classes for parents and babies, complete with singing, signing, toys and bubbles. Who doesn’t love bubbles?!
